RIRC Advanced Singles League

Guidelines

The ASL is all year round, divided into four seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer) consisting of 12 weeks plus two additional weeks for Playoffs. We are ladder based, using several criteria; NTRP, Points (+/- .05 for each win/loss), Win Percentage (wins/total), and Current Streak. Players are ranked this way to encourage more match play and rewards for each win. Depending on your results, you can be moved up or down between divisions. All matches will be paired at my discretion, and the same two players should not play each other twice, unless they meet in the playoffs. You’ll play an assortment of matches, including your division, the one above and/or below.

Typically, matches are played Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday evenings from 9-11pm. You’re welcome to play more than once a week, depending on player availability and courts. You’ll be added to the RIRC Newsletter, which is emailed to you Thursday afternoons. To sign up for the following week, you must reply to the Thursday email. Participants will receive an email latest by Friday evening. If you haven’t received a Newsletter yet, please email me. Spots fill quickly, so reply promptly. I'm trying to accommodate everyone, but please understand that managing a league this size isn't easy and the more flexibility you have the easier it is to arrange a match for you. Even though the league will be competitive, cheating and unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Please be fair to everyone and willing to replay points if necessary.

In the case of late cancellations or no shows, we will be firm with our 24hr late cancellation policy.  It states that we reserve the right to charge any player the full amount due to their late cancellation or no show. If you let me know in time, I’ll do my best to get someone to fill your reservation, in which case you won’t be charged.

Rules

·        Be on time; 9pm to ensure enough time for a 30 minute warm-up and at least an hour and a half for two sets of play. If there is time remaining, you’re more than welcome to stay and play.

·        Play Two sets, with add scoring and a 10 point tie-breaker instead of a third set if you split.

·        When you finish your match, have the winner write down the scores on the sign-up sheet on the front desk and print your initials in the appropriate box.

·        Partial scores will be dealt with on an individual basis, but ties will only be considered if the player that lost the first set is up at least three games in the second (ie 6-4, 0-3), or a break to close the second (ie 6-4, 3-5).

·        Playing one match automatically puts you on the ladder.

·        To move up a group, you must either win three matches in a row from your group, or two from your group and one from the group above (still three wins total). Once in the new group, all results from lower groups will be voided.

·        You’ll be moved down a group if you either lose three matches in a row from your group, or two from yours and one from the group below (still three losses total). Once in the new group, all losses from groups above will be voided.

·        Players that have played five matches or more in their division will qualify for Playoffs (yes, that means prizes).

Playoffs

I always enjoy the Playoffs, and I’m sure the participants do too. Each player must have played a minimum of five matches in their division to qualify. Once you’ve qualified, I separate all of the players into flights of four players, starting from the top of the group, for a semi-final showdown. Each flight is single elimination, with the finals played the following week. The winner’s of each flight will receive a prize posted on the Playoff Brackets. Playoffs are the same price as regular matches and of course you can use your series if you have one. The format is similar, but please notice the differences;

Ÿ         2/3 sets

Ÿ         Play out third set (no super-breaker)

Ÿ         No Add scoring

Ÿ         At deuce, the returner picks which side to return from

I’ve spent a lot of time on the new ASL, and I hope you enjoy it. Of course, if you have any suggestions, you’re more than welcome to do so. Thanks for your continuing support and I hope to have another great season,
